Minister of Health

Prof. Anna-Maria Borissova graduated from the Medical Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria in 1974. After her graduation, she obtained specialties in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolic Deseases. Then, she defended a dissertation for the degree of „Doctor of Medicine” (MD) on the topic: “Insulin Sensitivity and Beta-cell Function in Different Forms of Diabetes”, and second dissertation for the degree of „Doctor of Medical Sciences” (DMSc) on the topic: “Influence of Different Anti-osteoporosis Treatments on Postmenopausal Metabolic Changes in Women”.
Until her appointment as Minister of Health on 21 April 2010, she has worked as Assistant, Senior Assistant and Chief Assistant at the Clinic of Diabetes, Medical University in Sofia. Later on, she worked as Assoc. Professor and Professor at the Clinic of Thyroid and Metabolic Osseous Diseases, and subsequently she became Head of Clinic.
Before taking office as Minister of Health, she has been a chair of the Bulgarian Society of Endocrinology and the Bulgarian League for Osteoporosis Prevention.
Prof. Anna-Maria Borissova is an author of 320 scientific works in Bulgarian and international periodicals.
